Painting Mad Man!!!!

The Troll and other things

Here is the finished troll in all his glory.  He has been photographed with and without the network controller.  I made the controller removable so that the owner could add or remove it if they wanted to use if for a game.  I should say that the recipient is a network and security specialist who has the nickname of Network Troll.

Titan riding a seahorse.  Still working on this one but I am starting to like it more.

Barbarian wolf warrior...

I thought this umber hulk was done.

Naga's still need something... not sure what

And the back

Then I noticed his teeth.

Elemental my dear Watson, Elemental

Hey are a few of the latest to commission pieces I have been working on.  I love the way the Earth Elemental cam out.

Here are couple of Shambling Mounds.  I used slightly different greens for each just to make them a little more unique.

And finely some more work on the troll.  This is a wonderful piece from Reaper Miniatures.

Couple more

These are a couple more of my commission pieces.  Right now they are just WIP but both of them are cooperating nicely.  The Troll is for a network troll "award" for a coworker so I'm planning on putting him on a plinth with a smashed router in his hand.  I have a couple of different ideas for the base but I don't know which one is will go with.  One is have him standing on a pile of network routers, servers and other geek stuff.  The other involves copying the floor of our computer room.

This one is an old Ral Partha file elemental.  It is a very nice clean piece and a pleasure to paint.  I'm not really sure about how to paint the base though -- just black maybe?

Some of the figures I have done on commission:

Me and the dwarf fought each other the whole way to this point.  I hated him until the 80% mark, then I really started liking him.  Somethings just go like that.  It is rare for me to hate a miniature most of the way through, then do a complete turnaround.  Most of the time I like a miniature all the way through the process.  It not uncommon for me to like where I am at with a miniature and be afraid to move it to the next step for fear of screwing it up.  Most of the time with commission work I never have that feeling because I feel that I could just restart it case of disaster.  If its a personal figure, I often just abandon it.  Sad I know but it is true.

Reaper Bones Ogre

This is one of my current projects...  An ogre for a DnD game I ran for some kids.  I had forgotten how fun it is to run for kids.  Their have incredible imaginations and don't get involved in the rules at all.  They just try to do stuff and see what happens.

Okay.. Okay..  I will say some stuff about the painted miniatures.  So far this piece is one of my favorite things I have painted for gaming certainly within the last year.  The skin is a mix of Reaper Master Series Midnight Blue and Nightmare Black which turned quit nicely I think.  I added it to my recipe file so I must have liked. The metal armor, shield edges, and club spikes and bands are done with some of the Scale 75 paint that I got from hangar 18.  They are a bit thicker than other paints but still thin down nicely which makes them excellent in my book.  The face on the shield is quick effect using the badger transparent paints over a RMS pail yellow and covered with Reaper Matte finish to remove the gloss.  The base is just green stuff pressed into shape using a stamp from Happy Seppuku I added a couple of tufts of grass I got from hangar 18 to give the base a bit more interest.
